Getting Ready

Having scheduled your procedure, the most difficult part is actually already done. It is now that patients regularly ask how they should best prepare for their surgery. Dr Rezai recommends first and foremost that you try to relax whilst maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Now is not the time for special diet and exercise programs.

Patients who smoke should stop smoking at least 6 weeks prior to their procedure. Also stop taking all over-the-counter herbal supplements and alternative medicines, as they can cause bleeding and interfere with anaesthetics. Two weeks prior to surgery, all aspirin and ibuprofen containing products should be discontinued, as these too can also cause increased rates of bleeding.

You will be referred to a laboratory to carry out pre-operative routine blood tests. But you might also be requested to undergo special tests prior to your procedure depending upon your age, health, and the type of procedure that you are having. These might include an ECG, a mammogram, or a visual examination. We recommend that you inform your GP regarding your surgery and as a routine procedure, we will keeo your GP informed of your progress.

All requested examinations, tests and laboratory analyses should be completed at least 2 weeks prior to your procedure.

Patients should organise their own transportation to and from the hospital, and arrange for someone to stay with them at home for at least the first night after surgery. It is wise to arrange for any necessary child care well in advance of the procedure. Transportation to and from post-operative visits should also be considered. Out of town patients should book their travel arrangements and accommodation well in advance.

We are always available to assist with any particular logistical or travel concerns that you may have.

During the period immediately prior to surgery, patients may find that they become increasingly anxious. Do not worry… this is perfectly normal. Dr Rezai and his team are always available to talk things over and ease your concerns. They are seasoned professionals, and no question is considered too silly or trivial.

Please remember… We are always at hand to help you every step of the way on the path to achieving your personal goals.
